Sweet Communion(Written on the occasion of a gathering of High School
students, MHSMCE`76 December 1, 2001)

Today like yesterday I saw in a haze
The edgeless furrows left by the past.
They are the remains of a different age-
Sometimes appearing within wispy grasps,
Sometimes amidst nebulous horizons
That fade between sky and sea.

There are those who see fractious yesterday,
As fragments of unfettered memories-
They fail to see such moments
Present an eternity-
To tutored minds that fleet by time-
Memories are malingering fingers
That coax to the fore sunken thoughts.

Memories are sometimes tumults
That shake the heart with violent emotions,
Or buoy it with a measured, insouciant rhythm.
They are reminders that chime a tune
That is both sad and pleasing all at once.

But those who fear Nostalgia are like birds
Spooked by sounds as inconsequential as rustling
leaves.
And those who care less have forgotten
The sweetness of Communion.

Yesterday holds a myriad of images
For those who care to remember.
Today, my friends, shed the cloaks you have donned
Through ages,
And return to who you were,
As we knew you,
In memory and salutation of Friendship.
